Partylist Says, P2-K SSS Pension Hike Will Push Through

Bayan Muna assured to push P2,000 SSS pension hike in the Lower House.

After it was vetoed last year, SSS pensioners still have the hope for the P2, 000 pension hike during the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte.

The measure was filed by former Bayan Muna Representative Neri Colmenares during the previous administration.

Last year, former President Benigno S. Aquino III vetoed the bill passed by the Congress due to the actuarial life of SSS funds. The then pro-Aquino House refused to override the veto until the 16th Congress ended.

On Saturday, the Bayan Muna party-list said it will continue pushing for the passage of a P2,000 across-the-board increase in the pension of SSS members.

This was their assurance as it lauded the agency’s plan to grant its own pension hike. Earlier, the SSS is proposing six options on how to implement the proposed P2,000 across-the-board increase in the monthly pension of retirees without overwhelming the coffers of the pension fund for private sector employees.

“While this is a good development, we will continue push for the immediate approval and enactment of the P2,000 SSS pension increase bill,” Bayan Muna Representative Carlos Isagani Zarate said.

“This will ensure that the full P2000 pension hike will be given across the board simultaneously to all SSS pensioners, without the imposition of a corresponding increase in the payment of SSS premium.”

“Our bill will also ensure that the current minimum pension increases, so future pensioners will also benefit,” Zarate added. “We do not want the increase to be staggered or incremental because the SSS pensioners need all the help they can get; in fact, even the P2,000 increase is still small for their everyday needs.”

According to the solon, the House committee on government enterprises and privatization is expected to approve House Bill 475, and hope that before the year ends, President Duterte can sign it into law for the benefit of the long-awaited increase.
