President Duterte said he will respect whatever Indonesian Pres. Widodo’s decision on Mary Jane Veloso’s fate will be.
President Rodrigo Duterte said on Monday, September 5, that he will try his best to save Mary Jane Veloso from the death row in Indonesia.
Before he left for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) forum meeting in Laos, Pres. Duterte said he would ask mercy for Veloso when he and Indonesian Pres. Joko Widodo happen to talk in the said event.
Duterte and Widodo are set to meet after the summit for bilateral talks.
“I may just have to ask Widodo in a most respectful and in a very, very courteous way. And if my pleadings will fall on deaf ears, I am ready to accept it for the simple reason that I do not doubt the judicial system in Indonesia. I have been there once upon a time and was able to observe how it works”.
The president added: “I might just accept the system and plead for mercy”.
But Duterte said, if Pres. Widodo would deny his plea for mercy, Digong said the would still be “grateful that she has been treated very well”.
