Manila, Philippines – “Oligarchs,” once again have been strike by President Rodrigo Duterte and swear that he will go after them during his term. He guarantees to destroy them, telling the troupe of soldiers last Friday evening at the Camp Lapu Lapu in Cebu City. Oligarchs are those rich personalities in the country which have a strong political influence to control or monopolize the business here in the country. Oligarch are those who “make money at the expense of the poor” Duterte cited.

Business tycoon Roberto Ongpin was recently tagged by the President to be on his list as one of those oligarchs in the country. He name other alleged oligarchs as Eric Gutierrez, owner of a mining company together with all of the ally of the defeated presidential candidate Mar Roxas.

Duterte quoted “tingnan mo itong si Gutierrez, isa pa iyang oligarch…” He stressed that these persons are fooling fellow Filipinos and they don’t pay their taxes correctly. “Nagpasok nag eroplano, walang bayad. Nagpasok ng chopper, walang bayad. Nagmina doon sa Agusan, sinira ‘yun.” He added. The jets used by Roxas during his campaign is owned by Gutierrez. Roxas admitted that Gutierrez is his friend but clarified that he paid Gutierrez for using the jets.

Duterte lectured on Wednesday against these oligarchs and citing Ongpin and Gutierrez. Duterte stressed “I’ll give an example, publicly, Ongpin, Roberto. Malakas kay Ferdinand Marcos noon, trade minister, I think. Malakas na succession: During Ramos he was a hanger-on and kay Gloria Arroyo, Pnoy. Now he owns the online gambling.” He cited that these guys are just sitting on their airplanes and in their mansions while their money are growing and rising. Duterde assured that he will destroy them.

Ongpin was a trade minister during Marcos time. It was earlier on June that Duterte said he will stop the online gambling. Among his criticism of Ongpin on Friday, August, 2016, he commended his resignation from Philweb.
