Kris Aquino Now Under Investigation by Ombudsman Visayas

Presidential sister and Kapamilya actress Kris Aquino is now under investigation by the Office of the Office the Ombudsman in the Visayas for her alleged involvement in using a presidential helicopter during a campaign sortie of the Liberal Party (LP) headed by Mar Roxas and Leni Robredo in Cebu last Tuesday.

According to Atty. Ma. Corazon Naraja, spokesperson of the anti-graft office based in Cebu City, they were gathering facts about the incident and would determine the legal issues concerning the matter. The Office of the Ombudsman in the Visayas did not elaborate further their on-going investigations involving the presidential sister.

Atty. Naraja also noted that according to the Omnibus Election Code of the Philippines, the use of government-owned vehicles and other government resources are prohibited to be used in election campaigns.

The controversial incident involving presidential sister Kris Aquino came to the attentions of the Office of the Ombudsman through various media reports. As part of the national government’s policy, the anti-graft office, the Office of the Ombudsman can conduct an investigation on its own, based on reports in national media.

Kris Aquino made headlines recently and was heavily criticized after photos on social media showed her alighting from a presidential chopper to campaign for Mar Roxas in the province of Cebu. The TV host and actress was seen wearing a yellow shirt and black pants, and she was accompanied by people who appeared to be her aides.

The photos, which were uploaded on Facebook, was released by the Municipality of Dalaguete where the presidential chopper reportedly landed last Tuesday.

During that particular day, Kris Aquino confirmed that she attended a political rally of Mar Roxas and Leni Robredo in Argao town located next to the town of Dalaguete where the presidential chopper were parked during that day. Aside from Kris Aquino, President Benigno Aquino III also graced the event after inaugurating a solar power plant in San Carlos City in Negros Occidental.
