Atty. Bruce Rivera Reveals Reasons Why He Supported Mayor Duterte for President

A well-known lawyer and prominent supporter of Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, Atty. Bruce Rivera revealed through a lenghtly post on his official Facebook account the main reason why he is supporting and campaigning for Mayor Duterte to be the next president of the country.

Atty. Bruce Rivera made headlines after his emotional reactions to the Supreme Court decision to all Sen. Grace Poe to run for President despite the fact that she lied on her sworn statement while running for Senator.

The young lawyer stated the recent SWS and Pulse Asia surveys left him dumbfounded as he questioned the results of the survey putting Mayor Duterte behind in numbers despite his popularity on social media and for the fact that his campaign sorties were always jampacked.

Atty. Rivera also urged his fellow Duterte supporters to be honest and not hide anything particularly their profile on Facebook.

Why Duterte?

The recent SWS and Pulse Asia survey left me dumbfounded. The news reports of major networks are conveniently silent on the huge crowds in his campaign trail but would immediately report any negative development and all videos become viral overnight. I am dreading my video became viral not because it touched the hearts of many but because of forces trying to link Duterte supporters to the backlash on the SC decision allowing Poe to run cementing our already notorious reputation to be bullies, illogical thinkers and defiant to change. By a stroke of bad luck, I wore a DU30 shirt when I recorded the video and it was not a conscious effort.

Then I realized a very important common factor in all Duterte supporters: we are honest and we do not hide. We openly criticize and debate with our real names and faces. Most of the other candidates’ black propagandists hide in crypts and aliases. Most of my bashers have no faces. So I made a very important plea to all DU30 supporters, let us not play in their game. Digong is not a traditional politician. He does not know how to hide anger, feign malice and throw mud in the dark. This should not be our game. We are novices in character assassination while our opponents have mastered the art of deceit and has money to hire the brightest legal minds to make strategic plans of attack. And if I am the loudest we got, then we are in trouble.

If they throw mud, we fight with water and clean ourselves. If we retaliate with mud, we just allowed ourselves right where they want us to be: in the filth where they thrive. If they throw bad stuff, we just show them the good stuff. Believe me, they will run out of mud but Duterte will still have so much good stuff to offer.

Duterte is an outsider. A real son of Visayas and Mindanao. The rest of the options are already within the clique of imperial Manila. A clique where they are comrades one day and enemies the next. But still the same names and faces. They have recruited Duterte long before. He was invited to be DILG Sec. by three Presidents, he had the chance to be in the big leagues but he did not. He was content doing his job as Mayor of Davao City. He was not afraid to do the job, he was aware that it was the biggest task and he did not want to play the game because he did not have the money to launch a presidential bid.

Which makes you wonder, why is Duterte virtually a pauper when he spent almost three decades in public service. Why is his so-called “assets” dismal compared to his opponents some of whom have spent considerably lesser time in public service. It makes you wonder why a long standing mayor of the most progressive city in our country not have a house fit for a king. Deep inside, I know the answer. I know the man because I know the daughter who share the same spunk, integrity and gangster street credit that everyone is fair game in the name of public service.

I will not harp on his achievements as a public servant. A non-believer will always find a reason to discount it. I will just tell everyone who has chosen not to vote for Duterte that I respect their decision. However, I know in their heart, they are secretly wishing many do not share their choice. Because if we take out the factor of money, protection of status quo, personal interests, filial piety and regionalistic bias, he is the best person for the job.

And if we lose this fight…we will still come out unscathed with out principles intact.

Because we fought mud with clearest of water.
