Martin Nievera, one of the country’s OPM icons, and known in the Philippine music industry as the “Concert King” explained his controversial post on social media where he criticied the seeming new format that noontime variety shows have been donning these past few weeks.
The controversial post of the 53-year-old Martin Nievera went viral on social media as he asked his Twitter followers: “What has happened to the noontime shows on Sunday?” The post got some positive and negative reactions on Twitter after the actor posted it online on August 23, 2015.
Martin Nievera finally aired his official statement and explained his side during an interview with “Aquino & Abunda Tonight” on Tuesday. According to the veteran singer he stressed that he is not pointing fingers at any particular show, but added that “these shows are becoming a bit unlike what they used to be.”
The singer explained further that “I get that we have to reinvent, we have to go with the times –the televiewers are the ones that make the rules, not us,” he said. Martin Nievera also gave his two cents on the issue on whether artists should be allowed to lip sync live on television.
“Lip sync is bad but it is very much needed. During my time, if you sang off sync, you would be bashed. …It seems to be a craze and I can’t say I’m against it because in my 33 years, I have lip synced,” he said.
