Philippine Boxing Team Delivered Five Gold Medals During the SEA Games

The Philippine boxing team is now considered as the most successful delegation of the Philippines in the ongoing Southeast Asian Games by delivering a total of 5 gold medals aside from three silver and 2 bronze medals. On Wednesday, the boxing team dominated the event by scoring as the overall winner in the SEA Games boxing matches.

Boxers Josie Gabuco, Ian Bautista, Mario Fernandez, Junel Cantancio and Eumir Marcial all delivered for the Philippines which take the country to 21 total golds.

The three other boxers of the Philippine team, Irish Magno, Nesthy Petecio, and Rogen Ladon – settled for silver medals as the Philippine boxing team.

The two most prominent boxers in the SEA Games boxing event were Mario Fernandez and Toni Marcial as they scored decisive knockouts on their respective opponents in the division they dominated.

Mario Fernandez floored Thailand’s Tanes Ongjunta at the 2:15 mark of the second round to secure the gold medal in the Bantamweight division. Eumir Marcial on the other hand, the last Filipino boxer to fight on Wednesday, dominated his Singaporean counterpart, Tay Jia Wei by knocking the hometown favorite at 0:48 mark of the second round in the SEA Games Welterweight final.
