The Philippine national basketball team suffered a shocking defeat yesterday against the still unbeaten Qatar in the Filipinos first game of the round-robin elimination round of the Asian Games Basketball Quarterfinals. The Gilas Pilipinas squad was defeated by Qatar with the final score at 68-77 in favor of the Middle Eastern basketball team.

The heartbreaking loss of the Filipinos came a day after they suffered a another defeat at the hands of the Asian powerhouse and 2013 FIBA Asia tormentor, the Iranian national basketball team.

During the last time that the Philippines met the South Koreans, the Filipinos ended the “Korean curse” when they defeated the Asian powerhouse in Manila during the 2013 FIBA Asia Championship.

Both the Philippines and South Korea competed in the 2014 World Basketball Championship or the FIBA World Cup of Basketball in Spain, wherein the Philippines ended with a 1-4 record while the South Koreans lost all of their five consecutive games against the world’s powerhouse basketball teams.
