Labor Day: Free LRT & MRT Rides for Workers on May 1, 2014 (Schedule)

Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) and Metro Rail Transit (MRT) announce that government and private workers will get free rides on Thursday, May 1, 2014 as the nation celebrates Labor Day.

Hernando Cabrera, LRTA spokesman announce via his official Twitter account the requirements and schedules for the free rides for government and private employees on LRT 1 and 2 on Labor Day.

According to Cabrera, free rides will be from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. but the workers must present their employment ID first in order to avail the free ride. LRT-1 links from Roosevelt in Quezon City to Baclaran while LRT-2 links from C.M. Recto, Manila to Santolan.

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz earlier announced that workers from public and private sectors can also avail free rides on the Metro Rail Transit (MRT) on May 1, 2014. MRT free rides will be from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

“Workers should present their company IDs and log their names with the security guard assigned at the service gate before they are issued boarding p(–foul word(s) removed–). They will be subjected to the usual baggage inspection. Their companions, however, shall pay for their own rides,” the Department of Labor and Employment said.

Philippines will mark the 112th celebration of Labor Day, on May 1, 2014 Thursday with the theme: “Sa Sipag, Tiyaga, at Talino, Buong Mundo Saludo sa Manggagawang Pilipino.”

DOLE announced earlier that the Philippine government will launch a nationwide job fair on May 1, 2014.
