Lacson as Post-typhoon Rehabilitation ‘Czar’

Appointment of former senator Panfilo ‘Ping’ Lacson as post-typhoon rehabilitation ‘czar’ will be implemented in due time since the former senator accepted the offer of Pres. Benigo Aquino III to take the position.

In a text message Lacson sent to the president, he said, “Mr. President, with all humility, and with distinct honor andprivilege, I accept the task that you want me to perform and accomplish.”Maraming salamat po sa inyong tiwala at sa pagkakataong makatulong na muli sa ating mga kababayan,” he continued. 

The primary task given to him is to oversee reconstruction from typhoon devastation last month and source of fund will not only came from the Philippine government but also through the aid of international (–foul word(s) removed–)istance.

Rehabilitation will cost P 40 -billion followed by reconstruction in infrastructure, housing , livelihood, employment opportunities, social services and local facilities. Budget allocation will be coming from 2013 General Appropriations Act.

“When the President asked me if I could be in charge of rehabilitation efforts, I did not immediately say, ‘Yes,’ and asked for time to think about it because I know it’s a daunting task and it’s also not my area of expertise,” Lacson said.

Senate Majority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano also endorsed Ping Lacson to lead the investigation of the pork barrel scam “because of his impeccable record against corruption and his unwavering stand against the pork barrel.” Cayetano added.
