The Philippine Azkals secured a much-coveted slot in the Finals of the AFC Challenge Cup 2014 to be held in Maldives after they defeated Turkmenistan in the final stage of the AFC Challenge Cup Qualifier held at the Rizal Memorial Stadium on March 26, 2013.
The lone goal from Filipino-British striker Phil Younghusband was instrumental in securing a slot for the Philippines in the tournament dubbed as the final stage of Asia’s emerging football nations.
Phil scored his 33rd international goals for the Philippines against a much-heralded and higher ranked team, Turkmenistan. Their opponent ranked at 140th spot while the Philippines is currently ranked at 145th in FIFA worldwide ranking.
