September 12,2011 became a significant date for Angola as for the first time, they had finally brought home the prestigious Miss Universe crown through their representative Leila Lopes.
Before that historic victory, people as they heard Angola, what came in to their minds was the thought of a country suffering for war and poverty.
As an African country, Angola is one of the many countries in the region which continuously strive to uplift their economic status and to promote positive impression to the international community.
Lopes victory during the Miss Universe 2011 pageant held in Sao Paulo, Brazil was eyed to be her way of putting Angola in the map, not as a country that had been suffering civil war and poverty, but as a country that can offer a lot of good things.
In a published report, Lopes had expressed some of the things that she had been proud of for his country, like the beautiful places, good foods and the wonderful climate that they had.
Lopes, 25, is a business student who had made positive impression in the recently concluded Miss Universe competition as she had been chosen to shine among the remaining other four Final 5 from China, Philippines, Brazil and Ukraine.
Furthermore, Lopes had also revealed that perhaps there were really a lot of people who would think negatively for Angola and its people but she said in order to correct those wrong impressions that it was true that there were conflicts for almost 30 years but as an Angolan who is proud and happy to what their country had achieved right now, she was happy to share the fact that the country had been enjoying peace for almost 12 years as they all work for the betterment of their country.
Moreover, newly crowned Lopes had admitted that winning the pageant would surely changed her life for the next couple of months as she was scheduled to travel anywhere in the globe for a better cause that the Miss Universe Foundation would offer to the world far from her usual routine as a student.
