The University of the Philippines Pep Squad bagged the championship for this year’s UAAP Cheerdance competition for the second time in a row at the Smart Araneta Coliseum yesterday. With their blond hairdos and body fitting costume, they wowed 20,842 fans that went to the big dome.
The execution was flawless and left the crowd hanging. “Grabe. I can’t find words to describe how I feel,” UP (–foul word(s) removed–)istant coach NJ Antonio told Yahoo! College Hoops. “We owe it to God. He was the one who made this possible.”
Second is De La Salle University’s Animo Squad whose back in the podium since 1998, the performance is good though one of their dancers had an injury midway in their routine. And in the last place is Far Eastern University with their Bollywood- themed routine, which also had a fall during their pyramid routine.
Head judge Ai Hasegawa of the International Federation of Cheerleading commended UP’s remarkable routine. “They were very good,” Hasegawa said. “Their stunts were difficult but were very stable.”
