The death of Maico Buncio had raised speculations among the motorsports community about the caused of his untimely demise. More and more questions were raised by his colleague in motorsports and fans throughout the country for whom to blamed his death.
In an official joint statement released by his family and his team Suzuki Philippines they stated that the death of Maico was caused by a steel bar which protruded from a still-unfinished barrier at the Clark International Speedway.
The Buncio Family and Suzuki Philippines stated that “Traveling at high speed, his bike had slipped into loose gravel on the shoulder of the speedway. Buncio was thrown off 100 meters from his bike, crashing into an unfinished barrier on the speedway where a protruding steel bar punctured his body and damaged his kidney and liver” they said in a statement.
After the accident, Buncio was immediately brought to Mabalacat Hospital but eventually transferred to the University of Sto. Tomas Hospital where he p(–foul word(s) removed–)ed at around 3:57 PM Sunday (May 15,2011).
Speed Racing Champion Maico Buncio was dubbed as the fastest man on two wheels. The 22-year-old four-time national Superbikes champion was a recipient of Golden Wheel Awards’ Driver of the Year 2011. He was also an awardee of 2010 Philippine Sportswriters (–foul word(s) removed–)ociation for motorsports.
Maico Buncio was the country’s official representative to the Asia Road Racing Championships. His untimely death was a big loose to Philippine motorsports. The body of the racing champion was laid in state at Loyola Memorial Chapels in Guadalupe.
For the past few days Buncio was the main topic of discussion in the motorcycle racing world and tributes had flooded his Facebook profile and some of them have uploaded a tribute video for the Buncio. Rest in Peace Maico Buncio.
