The cruise ship MSC Opera which had left Southampton on May 7 for a 10-day sail is being tugged into a port in Sweden due to some technical problems.
Carrying at least 400 British passengers, the massive cruise ship began to drift at around 11:00 am as it faced technical problems while it was in Baltic.
On Sunday morning, tugs have been sent for the cruise ship following the loss of its electricity off the Swedish island of Gotland.
Engines have been turned off according to the MSC Opera’s Italian-owned operators.
On the ship were about 1,800 vacationers to travel around Copenhagen, Helsinki and St Petersburg and reports said that the cruise ship was supposed to due back on Tuesday.
A confirmation had been made by the Swedish coastguards saying that the cruise ship MSC Opera is being towed as it was due to arrive 1000 BST on the Nynashamn port that is near Stockholm. Another coastguard vessel is currently heading its way to assist those who are in operation to help the MSC Opera.
Officials of the cruise ship declares that all the passengers are “being taken care of” despite that they were not able to get hot meals. All the MSC Opera passengers are expected to take voyages safely home. Most of the passengers on-board were known to be Europeans.
Operated by the Swiss-Italian company, travellers on-board will receive an offer for another cruise that is valid until December 2012.
