The rivalry between the two cricket-crazy nation in South Asia will once again will be showcase in the upcoming semi-final duel between India and Pakistan to be played at Mohali on Wednesday,  March 30, 2011.

The most anticipated match of this year’s edition of the International Cricket Council World Cup will be witnessed by thousands of people in India and millions of pro-Indians and pro-Pakistani supporters through live broadcasts. Some journalists have dubbed this momentous event as the World War in Cricket.

India and Pakistan have a long history of rivalry in cricket and it was common to both players from either countries to fight till the last drop of their talents. It was already instilled in their minds that it is okay for them to loose to other countries except India or Pakistan.

The 2011 ICC World Cup which was hosted by India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh have now come to the last four teams that survived for the semi-finals. India will be battling arch-rival Pakistan, while Sri Lanka will face New Zealand. The winner from both sides will then move on to the finals of the 2011 ICC World Cup.

For the record between India and Pakistan matches which was considered as one of the world’s greatest sport rivalry of all time. India have succeeded in subduing Pakistan for four times in their World Cup appearances. Meanwhile Pakistan had dominated India in the Champions Trophy matches where they got 2-0 advantage.

According to statistics from the International Cricket Council. India and Pakistan have played a total of 59 Tests, 119 ODI’s, and 2 Twenty 20 International. With the number of games played, Pakistan have prevailed winning 12 Tests, 69 ODI’s although zero in T20 International.

India have only managed to 9 wins by Tests, 46 in ODI’s and 1 T20 International. There were also instances of draw, tie and no result. Draw, tie and no results were 38 Tests, 4 ODI’s and 1 T20. Whatever will be the outcome of this semi-final match between India and Pakistan one thing for sure it will be an exciting game to watch.
