Smart Gilas vs. Japan Preview 34th Jones Cup

The Smart Gilas Pilipinas have successfully made a tremendous performance for the first four days of the 34th Jones Cup Basketball Tournament in Taiwan winning three-straight games.

The team which was being mentored by veteran PBA Coach Chot Reyes was able to land at the top of team standings with a 3-0 win-loss card tied with the depending champion Iran and the US representative to the competition.

Chot Reyes is busy right now with the preparation for the FIBA-Asia Cup (formerly Stancovic Cup) in Japan from Sept. 14 to 22, 2012. Reyes was also tasked for preparing the Smart Gilas Cadet Team which will see action in the upcoming ASEAN tournaments like the SEA Games, SEABA Champions Cup and other FIBA-sanctioned tournaments which do not need professional basketball players.

Meanwhile the Smart Gilas 2 will be battling today at around 5:00 PM (+8 GMT) against Asian powerhouse team Japan which currently ranks at the number 4 spot tied with 2-2 win-loss record together with South Korea, and Chinese Taipei A.  The game will be shown live in the Philippines through AKTV.

Japan was able to escape a hard-earned win over Jordan yesterday with only one-point deficit in one of the most exciting game in the 34th Jones Cup with the final score of 84-83.
