Food Delivery Rider Died after Hit by Dump Truck Over Miscalculated Overtake in Baguio City
A food delivery rider died after crashing into a dump truck due to miscalculated attempt of overtake in Baguio City.
According to the Manila Bulletin, a motorcycle rider for a food delivery service perished in an accident. A miscalculation attempt to pass a 10-wheeler dump truck on Loakan Road in Baguio City ended in an accident.
Francis Opia Mangaoang, 30, of Eternal Street, Baguio City, was identified as the rider. The accident occurred at about 11:20 a.m., according to the Traffic Management Section of the Baguio City Police Office.
According to the investigation, Mangaoang entered the opposite lane of the highway to overtake a dump truck. But, an impending car forces him to return to his lane in order to avoid it.
While there, the food delivery cyclist attempted to avoid an oncoming car by returning to his lane, but he allegedly miscalculated his maneuver and collided with the dump truck’s rear wheel. Worse, the dump truck carried the cyclist several meters away.
Due to severe injuries, the cyclist died on the spot. According to the report, the dump truck was on its way to Loakan. Its driver, Benjamin Catino Balbines Jr, 43, of Poblacion, Itogon, Benguet, is currently being investigated by authorities.
