Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake Today in Leyte, January 16, 2023
EARTHQUAKE TODAY – The Phivolcs recorded a 4.7 magnitude quake in Leyte today, Monday, January 16, 2023.
Following the 4.3 magnitude earthquake that jolted Maguindanao del Norte a few days ago, another strong quake was recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). The quake hit a part of Leyte. According to the agency, it had a magnitude of 4.7.
The earthquake that struck Leyte, January 16, 2023, was tectonic in origin. It specifically hit Leyte.
According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Leyte was located at 11.31°North, 124.52°East – 007 km South 30° East of Leyte with a depth of focus of 007 kilometers.
Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that no damages are expected from the said quake but as well as aftershocks. Based on the record released, no intensity was recorded of the said quake at the epicenter as well as nearby areas. The following instrumental intensities were recorded:
- Intensity I
- Ormoc City, Leyte
- Intensity III
- Kananga, Leyte
