Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake Today in Surigao del Sur, January 3, 2023
EARTHQUAKE TODAY – The Phivolcs recorded a 5.1 magnitude earthquake in Surigao del Sur, Tuesday, January 3, 2023.
Following the 4.3 magnitude earthquake that jolted Maguindanao del Norte a few days ago, another strong quake was recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). The quake hit a part of Surigao del Sur. According to the agency, it had a magnitude of 5.1.
The earthquake that struck Surigao del Sur today, January 3, 2023, was tectonic in origin. It specifically hit Hinatuan.
According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Surigao del Sur was located at 08.42°North, 127.12°East – 082 km North 85° East of Hinatuan with a depth of focus of 001 kilometers.
Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that no damages are expected from the said quake but there may be aftershocks. According to the agency, Intensity III was felt in Hinatuan and Lingig, Surigao del Sur. Instrumental Intensity I was recorded Bislig City, Surigao del Sur.
