Ex-BuCor Chief Rafael Ragos Recants Claims Against Former Sen. Leila De Lima

Ex-BuCor Chief Rafael Ragos apologized to former Senator Leila de Lima when they met at the Muntinlupa Court’s hallways.

Shortly after she sat as one of the lawmakers in the Senate in 2016, then Sen. Leila de Lima was pinned down by several individuals who accused her of involvement in the drug trade inside the national penitentiary when she was the secretary of justice.

De Lima was a staunch critic of the Duterte administration’s war against drugs. There were several instances when she and the then-President exchanged heated statements against each other. Even inside the Philippine Custodial Center in Camp Crame where she was detained for more than five (5) years now, the then lady Senator has maintained being vocal about her stand on national issues.

In the recent previous months, several individuals who pinned down former Sen. Leila de Lima recanted their testimonies. One of them is ex-BuCor Chief Rafael Ragos who claimed that he was just forced to testify against her.

The Muntinlupa Regional Trial Court allowed ex-BuCor Chief Rafael Ragos to make a recantation testimony on the case against former Sen. Leila de Lima. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Ragos and de Lima met at the hallways of Muntinlupa RTC where he apologized to her.

In a video, the former officer-in-charge of BuCor could be seen reaching for the hand of the former Senator as he was apologizing to her explaining that he got scared.

“I am really sorry. Talagang natakot ako,” Ragos said.

Based on the report, Ragos claimed that then Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II forced him to implicate then Sen. de Lima. The former Justice Secretary denied the recent claim of the ex-BuCor Chief.

The next cross examination of Ragos is set on November 25, 2022. It will be held at Muntinlupa RTC where the cases against the former Senator are being heard.
