Yassi Pressman recalled her struggles in showbiz
Actress Yassi Pressman revealed that she became a breadwinner at the age of 6 after she and her family decided to stay in the Philippines.
In a recent interview on Ultimate Multimedia Star Toni Gonzaga’s Toni Talks YouTube channel, Yassi shared a glimpse of her life before showbiz and how she started her career in the entertainment industry.
Yassi shared that she was born in Hong Kong and they stayed there until she was two years old. Back then, her father had businesses that really supported them financially but because of wrong business decisions and partners, their comfortable life did not continue.
Because of that, the family of Yassi Pressman went to the States and stayed at her father’s friend’s house. When she was six years old, they went to the Philippines and she was discovered by an agent while they were at Greenbelt.
Initially, they thought it was a scam. Yassi’s parents let her do auditions and at the age of six she had her first TV commercial and this started her career in showbiz. This continued until her ugly duckling phase or the awkward stage when a child star becomes a teenager.
At that time, no castings were available for her and so she concentrated on her life as a student. Yassi went back to doing dancing stints when she was 14 years old while she was still a 4th-year high school student.
Yassi Pressman recalled that from taping, she would go straight to school and she would just shower there so that she won’t miss her classes.
“I needed to make money for my family. I needed to secure funds na… I was the only one working kasi in our family ate eh,” Yassi said. Toni asked, “Naging breadwinner ka ng anong dead?”
Yassi said since she was six years old. At that time, her mother was helping secure their finances as a domestic helper. Her father was already old at that time and he got sick.
