Students Express Dismay After Failing to Register for DSWD Educational Assistance Due To Limited Capacity

Several students have expressed their disappointment after failing to register for DSWD educational assistance.

A few weeks ago, the Department of Social Welfare and Development Secretary Erwin Tulfo announced the distribution of educational cash assistance poor students. Qualified applicants may receive P1,000-P4,000.

Up to three (3) students per family may be given educational cash assistance. The 6-week program that aims to help poor students will run from August 20 to September 24, 2022, according to Tulfo.

Here is the list of amount that students can receive:

  • P1,000 – Elementary student beneficiaries
  • P2,000 – High school student beneficiaries
  • P3,000 – Senior high school student beneficiaries
  • P4,000 – College students

Applicants must present their school identification cards and school enrollment certificate upon applying for educational assistance. Students can use the cash aid to buy school supplies or for their daily allowances.

However, some students complained that they could not register for DSWD education cash assistance.

DSWD Educational Assistance

Recently, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) clarified that the registration for the educational cash aid program is still open for students who aim to get cash assistance from the government.

According to DSWD Assistant Secretary Rommel Lopez, the agency received about two million applicants for the education aid program. Lopez explained that some students failed to register due to the limited capacity of their database.

Lopez reported that about 142,175 students received the cash assistance and 257,265 others have benefited from the program. The government allocates P1.5 billion for the program and distributes around P649.8 million. DSWD has P900 million fund left for the program.

  1. Even if we have not availed of this program but we are still thankful to Senator Tulfo because he really has the heart of helping people especially the family of some choose students
