After the powerful quake in Abra, the residents of Barangay Sabang in Cabugao, Ilocos Sur consider the appearance of small fishes locally known as “Monamon” in shallow waters. The abundant harvest gives joy to the residents in the area.

The fisherfolks in the area were able to catch numerous crates of ‘monamon’, which were sold at a very affordable price. Some of the fish will be used for personal consumption.

According to Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources-Region 1 director Rosario Gaerlan, the recent earthquake in Abra possibly disturbed the creatures under the sea and swipe them into Cabugao’s shoreline.

The barangay captain also said that fishermen can usually catch ‘monamon’ during this season.
