DOH Speaks on Status of State of Calamity in PH w/c Is Set To Expire this September
DOH – The Department of Health revealed the order of President Bongbong Marcos regarding the “State of Calamity” status in the Philippines.
The COVID-19 pandemic is not yet over. Amid the easing of restrictions in several nations following a drop in the cases, the World Health Organization (WHO) reminded countries that the pandemic is not over somewhere if it is not over everywhere. It also recently reasserted that the global health crisis is “nowhere near over”.
Recently, a spike in the COVID cases in several nations was recorded. The WHO expects that there will be an increase in the cases in European countries this summer due to the loose measures.
In the Philippines, most of the areas including Metro Manila is under Alert Level 1, the loosest community quarantine measure. The country is under a State of Calamity declaration which is set to expire in November.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the Department of Health (DOH) revealed that Pres. Bongbong Marcos ordered the health department to study the status of the “State of Calamity” in the Philippines to determine whether or not it should be extended after September.
According to Health OIC and Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire, the Food and Drug Administration was already given an order to coordinate with the manufacturers of the vaccine for the moves of making the vaccines commercially available.
The DOH OIC explained that the “State of Calamity” status in PH is being studied well because it is linked to a lot of things like the emergency use of the vaccines, the clearances and certificates of the COVID treatments, the benefits of the healthcare workers, and the low prices of medicines.
Vergeire stressed that the wall of immunity of the public must be strong before lifting the State of Calamity. According to her, only around 15.8 million out of 71.4 million have received their booster shots.
