‘Karinderya’ Offering Unli-Lugaw in Sta. Mesa Earns Instant Popularity
A humble ‘karinderya’ in Sta.Mesa goes viral online and trooped by customers who came from different areas because of their “unli-lugaw”.
A certain eatery located in Albina, Sta Mesa, Manila has been one of the most popular karinderya in the area. The establishment is selling different types of meals but their affordable ‘unli-lugaw’ earned instant popularity.
Pura Family owns the karinderya offering ‘unli-lugaw’, which started 24 years ago. The owner starts to sell unlimited porridge for only P5 but the price continues to increase due to the increasing prices of basic ingredients.
“Ang kamahalan kasi yung gas doon din kami nagtaas ng presyo ng lugaw, at saka tumaas din yung bigas lahat ng gamit na panlugaw tumaas talaga katulad ng itlog,” Jun Pascual said.
Previously, the price of unlimited lugaw starts at P25 but the price increases if customers ask for toppings. Currently, the owner sells the popular porridge at P27 with egg, tofu, and lumpia. Customers can also order unli-lugaw with additional toppings such as twalya, isaw, and other toppings for P35.
The loyal customers continue to support the store because of the affordable meals. The owner will also prepare an additional pot of lugaw when face-to-face classes returned.
What is Lugaw?
Lugaw or plain congee is the most basic congee recipe that only requires rice, water, and salt. It is the food, which is mostly prepared for individuals suffering from sicknesses.
