The 24-year-old British actress Emma Watson also known as Hermione at Harry Potter has been made UN Goodwill Ambassador to advocate for the empowerment of young women, this organization works to tackle gender discrimination and provide greater opportunities for women and girls. After she completed her Bachelor’s degree in English literature at Brown University last month, at the age of 24, Watson joins the United Kingdom Nations organization.
According to Watson to serve as UN Women’s Goodwill Ambassador is truly humbling, the 24-year-old star admitted that she still has so much to learn and hopes to bring more knowledge , experience and awareness to his fellow individuals with this role. She confirmed a post on twitter that she is excited to start working with UN Women or known as the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women.
Watson earned her new humanitarian role by being involved in promoting girls education over many year at Bangladesh and Zambia. Furthermore, Watson promised that she would dedicate herself fully to her new role as a UN Goodwill ambassador. The actress will now work on the HeForShe campaign that is calling for men and boys to fight against the inequalities suffered by women and girls around the world.
On the other hand, Phumzile Mlambo-Nguka the under-secretary-general and Executive Director of UN Women, said that it was an honor for her to have the 24-year-old actress on their team. Mlambo-Nguka also said that she is convinced that the actress’s intellect and passion will enable UN women’s messages to reach the hearts and minds of young people.
The 24-year-old actress now joins a list of celebrities who have been titled or have been involved with the UN including Stevie Wonder, Drew Barrymore, Charllize Theron and Mia Farrow.
