Senator Bong Revilla’s jail terms won’t stop him from running for higher position in the upcoming 2016 Presidential Election. On Friday, June 20, when the Senator turned himself to authorities he declared that he will rise again. He was quoted as saying “I will rise again.”
The arrest of Sen. Bong Revilla is the first high-profile arrest in the country’s most controversial issue, the P10-billion pork barrel scam. According to Sen. Revilla his arrest would not stop his plan to run for President in 2016.
The 47-year-old Sen. Bong Revilla was the first politician to be arrested on charges of plunder and graft in the large-scale diversion of the Priority Development Assistance Fund which was allegedly masterminded by the controversial businesswoman Janet Lim-Napoles.
The co-accused of Sen. Revilla, fellow senators Jinggoy Estrada and Juan Ponce Enrile were also indicted fro plunder and graft charges in the Sandiganbayan on June 6, 2014, the warrant of arrest for the two remaining senators were not issued to them as of press time. The two senators, noted that they are set to surrender next Monday, June 23, 2014 to face the charges.
Meanwhile on Senator Bong Revilla’s plan to run for higher position in 2016, he was quoted as saying “I will run if the people demand it,” and noted that “Who knows, for the first time, we’ll have a President who is a prisoner.” Sen. Revilla stated.
The other suspect of the Plunder and Graft Charges at Sandiganbayan, the controversial businesswoman, Janet Lim-Napoles, is already under police custody and she will face the alleged plundering of the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF).
