Manny Pacquiao won’t attend the SMNI presidential debate
Senator Manny Pacquiao has this reason why he declined the invitation of SMNI to join the network’s presidential debate.
Previously, the camp of presidential aspirant Bongbong Marcos has confirmed that he will join the debate organized by the network run by religious leader Apollo Quiboloy. For Senator Ping Lacson and his running mate Senate President Tito Sotto, this is a “no” also.
In his tweet, Lacson stated the reason why they chose not to join the SMNI debates and this is because Quiboloy has already endorsed the candidates that he wants.
Aside from Lacson and Sotto, their fellow lawmaker, Senator Manny Pacquiao, turned down this debate as well. Based on the report from Inquirer, the boxer-turned-politician can’t see himself being at a debate organized by the TV network of Quiboloy who recently included on the wanted list of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
“As much as I would like to participate in every debate and public forum related to my bid for the presidency, I am compelled to decline the invitation of SMNI, which is owned by Apollo Quiboloy, who, according to the US government, has molested and abused children,” the presidential aspirant said.
Pacquiao also said that he can’t bear involving himself in an activity with a person who is using the narrative of religion for evil works. “I cannot, in good conscience, be part of any activity organized by a man wanted for detestable crimes and who unconscionably used the name of the Lord in vain for religious scams,” Manny Pacquiao said. With this, the lawmaker said that it is better to turn down the invitation from SMNI.
Meanwhile, as Pacquiao has been highlighting his desire to eradicate corruption in the government, he previously stated that there are politicians who are making public service their source of income. He said that this election is a fight for the poor.
