Sen. Ping Lacson Speaks Side Now on Re-imposing Death Penalty in PH

PING LACSON – The presidential aspirant and Senator changed his stand on the restoration of the death penalty in the Philippines.

For Election 2022, there is a total of 97 presidential aspirants. The Commission on Elections (Comelec) admitted that the number is quite high. They vowed to check whether or not there are “nuisance” candidates or those who do not really intend to run for a government position.

A small number of the 97 presidential aspirants is composed of incumbent government officials. One of them is Senator Ping Lacson whose running mate in the next election is Senate President Tito Sotto. They are among the first incumbent government officials to confirm their political plans in 2022.

Presidential aspirants began talking about national issues. One of the decade-long topics in the Philippines is the re-imposition of the Death Penalty in the country. Sen. Ping Lacson recently gave his current stand on it.

Previously, Sen. Lacson filed a bill seeking the restoration of the death penalty in the country. However, according to him, he changed his stand about it.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Sen. Ping Lacson revealed that a big factor that played on the change of his stand towards the re-imposition of the death penalty in the Philippines was his realization after watching the movie “The Life of David Gale”.

According to the presidential aspirant, the movie is about an advocate of the death penalty who was wrongly accused and was led to death row. The Senator expressed that it opened his mind and made him realize that it weighs more to save the life of a wrongly-convicted person than to execute it to a convict.

Sen. Ping Lacson said that he will withdraw the bill seeking the re-imposition of the death penalty he previously filed. Sen. Tito Sotto who also pushed for its reimposition also had a change of mind.
