President Rodrigo Duterte is Now Being Pushed to Run for Senatorial Race
Current President of the Philippines Rodrigo Duterte is now being pushed to run for the senatorial race in the 2022 election.
According to Alfonso Cusi, head of the PDP-Laban and Energy Secretary, the party is making attempts to persuade Duterte to run for senator in the 2022 elections. Cusi stated he will be the campaign manager for Senators Ronald ‘Bato’ Dela Rosa and Christopher “Bong” Go if President Duterte stands for senator.

In the approaching elections, Bato and Go have recently filed their candidacy for president and vice president, respectively. After deciding not to compete for vice president, Duterte has the option of running for senator, according to Cusi.
“Now, if the President would not run for vice president because he is firm on his decision not to go back on his word, I said why not run for the Senate so he could bring change there? That will be good for the country,” said the secretary.
Cusi believes that President Duterte’s high approval rating will help to improve the appeal of the Dela Rosa-Go complex. President Duterte and Senator Richard Gordon will be pitted against each other in the Senate.
Senators have been in Duterte’s crosshairs since they began looking into the government’s acquisition of overpriced medical equipment for pandemic response. Duterte went so far as to prevent Cabinet officials from attending Senate blue ribbon committee hearings led by Gordon, who became the target of Duterte’s weekly rants.
Duterte had previously expressed dissatisfaction with his employment as a member of the House of Representatives. He admitted that instead of soaking in the session, he would frequently spend time in shopping malls.
