Anonymous Source Claims Facebook Eyes to Change Its Name
The Verge reported that an anonymous source with a direct knowledge said that Facebook is planning to change its name.
The American technology blog said that Facebook Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg is planning to discuss the rebranding of the social media giant. Zuckerberg eyes to rename the platform at the company’s annual Connect conference on October 28, 2021.
The platform plans the rebranding with a new name next week as it aims to focus on building the metaverse, which refers to shared virtual world environments. The people can access metaverse through internet.
The company’s plan to change its name would like to position the Facebook’s social media app among many products under a parent company. It will oversee various platforms such as Oculus, WhatsApp, Instagram and more.
However, Facebook said that it does not comment or give comments to speculations. The firm’s spokesperson also refused to give a statement regarding the matter.
According to the reports, the rebranding would separate Zuckerberg from the futuristic work he is focused from the intense scrutiny received by the platform.
Facebook invested heavily in virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) with the aim to connect three billion people with the help mobile devices and social media apps. The tech-giant also announced their plan to generate 10,000 jobs in the European Union within the next five years to complete the metaverse.
