The Philippine Olympic Committee denied claims by the mother of Michael Christian Martinez, the lone representative of the Philippines to the Winter Olympics in Sochi.
Reports about the non-support of the Philippine government to Martinez went viral online citing statement from his mother Teresa Martinez.

According to the POC, the Philippines lone athlete in the Winter Olympics got an ample support from the Philippine government as reported by GMA News on Tuesday.
The POC revealed to the media that the International Olympic Committee and the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) teamed up to give financial aid to the family of Michael Christian Martinez citing vouchers signed by Michael’s mother releasing $6,000 from the IOC last November 2013.
GMA News also revealed the record at the Muntinlupa register of deeds that neither of the family’s two properties in the city have been under mortgage since the year 2005 which put doubt on an earlier statement made by Michael’s mother that she had to mortgage their home in order to finance his son in the Winter Olympics.
The International Olympic Committee also provided $1000 a month for Michael Martinez from July to October 2013, plus and addition $500 monthly allowance to pay for his coach and $6000 is currently awaiting Michael Martinez at the POC Office upon his return from Sochi, Russia.
The POC also provided Martinez with a pocket money worth $50 a day for his stay in Sochi Russia, while his food and accommodations are all shouldered by the Olympics’ organizers by the host country.
