The lone representative of the Philippines in the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics in Russia admitted during an exclusive interview last 2013 that he got no support from the Philippine. The interview video that was posted on YouTube admitting government’s lack of support went viral online in the past few days.

Michael Martinez admitted during an interview with Janelle So in Kababayan Today, that he did not get any support from the Philippine government but he got all the support of SM Malls, owner of the two ice skating rink in the country. The interview was conducted last November but during the last few days the interview video posted on YouTube went viral and garnered more than 40K views and thousands of comments.
The 17-year-old skater from Paranaque is the first-ever Filipino Winter Olympian to compete for the country after 22 years of absence in the games. The Philippines made a total of four appearance in the Winter Olympics.
In a separate report posted earlier, the mother of Michael Martinez, Teresa also admitted and confirmed that his son got no support from the government and they even mortgage their house to support Michael’s training and trip to the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.
The lone Philippine Olympian hopes to make the most of his record-breaking stint in the Winter Olympics, considering the geographical representation of the country which already created a buzz not only in Russia but also worldwide.
Michael Christian Martinez will perform in the short program starting at 11:00 PM to 3:00 AM (PST) on Friday, February 14, at the Iceberg Skating Palace, seeking to make the Top 24 Spot in the competition.
