Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque Harry Roque said that the Philippines does not need full lockdown amid rise of COVID-19.
On Monday (March 8, 2021), Harry Roque announced that the country does not need to undergo into full-scale lockdown amid the soaring cases of the coronavirus disease in the country.
Roque reported that around 60% to 75% of beds in intensive care units, isolation facilities and hospital wards for COVID-19 patients are available and ready to accept infected patients. He also said that the surge of COVID cases can be resolve in other ways.
“Handa po tayong gamutin ang mga magkakasakit. Meron pong available na beds, at inatasan na po natin ang mga local government units na paigtingin ang compliance sa minimum public health standards, contact tracing, testing, at may kapangyarihan po sila na magpatupad ng localized lockdown,” Roque said.
Former Health Secretary Manuel Dayrit explained that the soaring cases of the virus in the country was due to failure of observing minimum public health standards amid the pandemic. He also assured the public to ensure that people would comply on safety protocols to stop the virus transmission.
Dayrit also supported Roque’s statement saying that the country should not close everything again by shifting to the enhanced community quarantine.
