Sen. Chiz Escudero No Plans To Run for Higher Elective Post in 2028 Elections
CHIZ ESCUDERO – The Senator has formally requested the survey firms not to include his name in the polls for the 2028 Elections.
Several government officials were tagged in the flood control mess in the Philippines. The supposed multi-billion corruption gathered thousands of Filipinos on the streets to protest against corruption in the government. The Trillion Peso March was held twice in 2025.
Thousands of Filipinos called for accountability from the government. Several officials of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and members of the House of Representatives were tagged in the flood control mess. Furthermore, some senators are also accused of alleged involvement in the flood control scam.
Previously, Senate President Tito Sotto confirmed that the names of senators Chiz Escudero, Jinggoy Estrada, and Joel Villanueva are in the flood control report. The Senate Chief also admitted that he is against the removal of the names of his colleagues who are accused of alleged flood control corruption.
The Senate had a shakeup after the flood control mess broke out. Then, Sen. Chiz Escudero was the Senate chief. However, his alleged receiving of a multi-million donation from a contractor became an issue.
A former undersecretary of the DPWH, Roberto Bernardo, also accused Escudero of allegedly receiving kickback. The Senator denied the allegations against him and claimed that former House Speaker Martin Romualdez is allegedly behind the accusations against him and his fellow senators.
Sen. Chiz Escudero is now part of the minority bloc in the Senate. Recently, amid the talks about the 2028 Elections, the Senator made a formal request to the survey firms to not include his name in their pre-election surveys for the presidential and the vice presidential races in 2028.
According to News5, the Office of Sen. Chiz Escudero stressed that the Senator has no plans of running for a higher election office in the 2028 Elections. Based on the post, his office stressed that Escudero’s name on survey forms may allegedly affect the accuracy of the survey.
“His presence on prospective candidate lists for President or Vice President may not only fuel a misleading public narrative but also impact polling accuracy,” the Office of Escudero stated in a statement.
Amid the flood control mess in the Philippines, former House Budget Appropriations Committee chairman Zaldy Co claimed that Sen. Chiz Escudero is allegedly behind the budget cuts in PhilHealth, DepEd, and DA. Co is tagged as one of the alleged main role players in the supposed multi-billion corruption but he has not returned to the Philippines.
