Malacañang Defends Government Decision to Allow Limited In-Person Classes for Medical Students
Malacañang Palace has defended the limited face-to-face classes for medical students in low COVID-19 risk areas.
On Tuesday (January 26, 2021), presidential spokesperson Harry Roque has defended the decision of the government to allow the limited face-to-face classes for students taking up medicine courses and health sciences.
Roque said that the resumption of limited face-to-face classes will be a great help for the healthcare system of the Philippines in the future. He also explained that the country needs medical graduates and more doctors amid the coronavirus pandemic.
“‘Pag hindi natin ipinagpatuloy iyan eh may darating pong panahon na wala tayong magiging graduates and at a time of pandemic we need all the doctors we can have,” Roque said.
The Office of the President has already gave the Commission on Higher Education the permission to allow in-person classes in GCQ and MGCQ areas, according to Roque. “You cannot second-guess the President,” the official added.
CHED also urged the schools and university wishing to conduct limited face-to-face classes must submit an application. DepEd officials will also visit schools to check the requirements for in-person classes.
