DOH Secretary Gives Factors He Might Consider Recommending the Resumption of Face-to-Face Classes
DOH secretary Francisco Duque III is considering the resumption of face-to-face classes in areas with low risk for coronavirus disease.
On Tuesday (December 1, 2020), Duque respond to the questions on factors that would be considered for the resumption of the face-to-face classes. He might recommend the regular learning system to President Duterte in COVID-19 free areas.
Duque said that face-to-face classes might be allowed in very low risk or minimal risk areas. His statement came after Education Undersecretary Nepomuceno Malaluan said that the possible resumption of normal classes requires shared responsibility among various stakeholders.
“Kung ang lugar naman ay COVID-free for two weeks or four weeks, I am not sure, but zero case, walang COVID, walang risk halos, mababa ang risk, baka doon puwedeng pagbigyan,” Duque said.
However, Interior Secretary Eduardo Año opposed the possible reintroduction of face-to-face classes. Año said restoring the regular classes is too risky amid the health crisis in the country and criticized the recommendation.
“Kung magkasakit at magkaroon ng spike, ikaw ba ang gagamot diyan, ikaw ba magsasagot ng gastos diyan? Pangalawa, sino’ng magiging accountable?” Año said.
