i-ACT Apprehends Over 50 Motorcycle Riders Taguig for Using Nut Shell Helmets
About 50 motorcycle riders have been apprehended in Taguig City for using ‘nut shell’ helmets, which is considered “unsafe”.
The Inter-Agency Council on Traffic (i-ACT) advised the motorists to wear proper safety gears especially helmets during travel. Around 54 motorists in Taguig City have been apprehended for not wearing proper safety gears.
i-ACT Special Operations Team conducts an operation along Brgy. Cayetano and Brgy. Ususan in Taguig. The officials caught 54 motorcycle riders for wearing ‘nut shell’ helmets, which is mostly used in bicycles and skateboards.
The agency reported that most of the violators are city employees. The helmet has been called “nut shell” because it only covers the upper portion of the head. It has no visor and contains holes.
The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) explained that ‘nut shell’ is unsafe and could cause harm to the motorcycle riders because it could not protect the entire head from accident and strong impact.
