Sulu Governor Abdusakur Tan Places Province Under Lockdown Due to New Coronavirus Variant
Sulu Governor Abdusakur Tan declared a lockdown in the province starting early January 2021 due to the new coronavirus variant.
On Wednesday (December 30, 2020), Abdusakur Tan declared that the entire province of Sulu will go on lockdown from January 4 to 17, 2021. He made the declaration to prevent the spread of the mutated coronavirus disease.
Tan signed the executive order, which aims to implement the lockdown the country’s southernmost province for almost two weeks. He also said that the lockdown is extendable but it would depend on the situation.
“Extendable po iyan, depende po sa sitwasyon. At alam iyan ng ating mga kababayan dito na ito ay para sa kanila,” Tan said.
The province governor said that the returning migrant workers and residents will be ban from entering the province except for frontliners. Delivery of goods from other areas are still allowed in the province.
The Sulu Governor said that the lockdown is required after a case of new coronavirus variant from the UK has been detected in Sabah. He has already asked help from the national government for patrolling Sulu’s coastlines, machines for coronavirus testing, and food supplies.
