South Korea secured a ticket to FIBA World Cup to be held in Spain this coming 2014 as they routed Chinese Taipei with the final score at 75-57 during the bronze medal match on Sunday held at SM Mall of Asia.
The South Koreans bounced back from their yesterday’s lost against Gilas Pilpinas and dominated Chinese Taipei, the team that defeated China in the tournament. The victory of South Korea put them with the Philippines and Iran as the Asian representative to FIBA World Cup. With the win of South Korea they will return to the world championship for the first time in 16 years.
During the first period, the long-range shooting of Cho Sungmin, Yoon Ho-young and Kim Joo-sung made a 29-13 lead in the first quarter and never looked back, eventually leading by as much as 24 points.
South Korea’s top scorers during the FIBA Asia, Kim Mingoo, scored with 21 points along with 4 rebounds and 4 (–foul word(s) removed–)ists. He was the one who challenged the Philippines defense scoring with 27 points during the team’s losing effort against Gilas Pilipinas.
Naturalized player Quincy Davis had 12 points and eight rebounds for Chinese-Taipei, who settled for fourth place after a stirring run in the FIBA Asia tournament, which included an upset of defending champions China in the quarter-finals.
