Some Teachers Plan to Retire Due To Hardships of Distance Learning
Some teachers are already planning to retire due to the hardships of performing distance learning for their students.
The Department of Education is set to start the online learning amid the coronavirus pandemic. The distance learning is in accordance with the health protocols and quarantine guidelines set by the Philippine government.
However, numerous students find it difficult to learn online rather than the traditional face-to-face learning system. Many of them don’t have gadgets and internet connection, which are necessary for online learning.
The online learning system aims to prevent or contain the spread of the coronavirus disease in the country.
Aside from students, several teachers also find it difficult to conduct distance learning because some of them were used to utilize paper and books instead of high-technology devices.

A 59-year-old teacher named Genie Cuanan has also expressed her sentiments regarding the new learning system. Cuanan said that she needs to ask her child for help whenever using a computer.
The elderly teacher is also planning for an early retirement for struggling on how to use new devices. She was relieved after the Education Department moved the opening of classes from August 24 to October 5.
“Ang sabi ko, mag-early retirement na lang ako ‘pag di talaga ko matuto kasi mahihiya ako sa bata. Mas marunong pala sila sa akin kesa ako ang magtuturo, eh ako ang teacher,” Cuanan said.
Another 57-year-old teacher named Myrna Getsupa also expressed disappointment to the new system and plans to file an early retirement.
“Balak ko this month mag-evaluate sa GSIS at kung [lalabas] sa computation nila na okay naman at kaya na buhayin ako, mag-retire na po talaga ako,” Getsupa said.
