Emilio Aguinaldo mistakenly identified as Andres Bonifacio
State-run PTV mistakenly identified Andres Bonifacio, the Katipunan Supremo, for the first President of the Philippines, Emilio Aguinaldo.
On June 12, the country is celebrating the 122nd anniversary of Independence Day. This day served as a commemoration of the hardships that heroes went through in order for the country to have its freedom from colonizers.
For this year, the country is also giving recognition to modern-day heroes, especially to the frontliners who have been doing their duties amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
On the Independence Day coverage of PTV, the TV network also paid tribute to all the “bayani”. However, an unintentional mistake happened. Based on the report from Inquirer, the video that the network showed on air mistakenly identified the photo of Emilio Aguinaldo for Andres Bonifacio.

In line with this, PTV already released a statement as it apologized for the said mistake. Here’s the statement of the network on this matter.
“The said error was already corrected and the revised version will be uploaded in the Network’s social media pages. We sincerely apologize for this mistake. Rest assured that under the new PTV Management, necessary training and skills development will be initiated to avoid similar inaccuracies. We hope for your understanding on this matter.”
On June 12, 1898, the declared its independence from the Spanish colonizers. Every year, the country has different programs and events being held to commemorate this momentous event. However, due to the pandemic, the celebration this year is far different from what happened in the past years.
This day has also become a time for activists to gather in one place to express their grievances against the government.
