Barangay Chairman Badly Beat a Drunk Man Who Asked for Assistance
TARLAC CITY – A drunk man who supposed to asked for some aid and assistance was badly beaten by the angry barangay chairman.
Instead of help, a resident received hitting and slapping from a barangay chairman as he confronted him for allegedly being drunk. According to the victim alias “Rene,” he screamed in the street to ask for help, which he said was not provided.
Rene admitted that he was drunk at the time when he did it. However, one of the village council heard Rene shouting and badmouthing.
As a result, the village kagawad immediately reported him to the barangay chairman. Later on, when they meet face to face, the chairman allegedly hit Rene.
It was learned that Rene was working as a security guard and allegedly already received assistance from the Social Security System (SSS), based on the report of ABS-CBN News.
According to the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), they are already investigating the incident. DILG city local government operations officer Robert Diola said the victim could file an administrative case and a criminal case towards the chairman.
Tarlac Mayor Christy Angeles also expressed his views and said he understands where both parties have failed. Rene’s family is currently taking care of his medical condition due to injuries. They are also planning to file a lawsuit against the chairman.
