Drilon Says PH Government Should Consider Selling Military Camps In EDSA
DRILON – Senator Franklin Drilon proposed that the Philippine should consider selling military camps in Metro Manila.
The Philippine government has released more than P300 billion for coronavirus response and relief. The country gets funds from the 4.1 trillion peso budget for 2020.
In a bid to help prevent further transmission of the deadly virus, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte extended the “enhanced community quarantine” (ECQ) in Metro Manila and other ‘high-risk’ cities and provinces. He said earlier that if the country’s COVID-19 funds will run out, they will borrow.
In a previous article, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte said he will be forced to sell some of the government’s properties it funds to combat COVID-19 are not enough. Among the government assets that he plans on selling is the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC).
Based on a report from DZMM, Senator Franklin Drilon said the government should consider selling the military camps in Metro Manila. The money could help the country fight against the COVID-19 crisis.
“Ang laki ng contribution ng BGC sa ating ekonomiya. ‘Yan po ang halimbawa kung ano ang pwedeng gawin sa Camp Aguinaldo at Camp Crame,” he said.
According to the report, Senator Drilon said no one will be inconvenienced if they will sell the camps in EDSA since military camps don’t need be located in the middle of the city.
“‘Yan po ay hindi po theoretical. Nakita na po natin ang value of selling these military camps. Wala pong mapeperwisyo. Hindi po kailangan nasa gitna ng lungsod ang kampo ng military,” said Drilon.
Based on the report, Franklin Drilon said selling PICC to private sectors would not be ideal. He explained that the maintenance is costly and the government probably won’t get a good price.
“Malaki po ang maintenance diyan, the ability to get a good price hindi po madaling gawin,” he said.
