Malay Town To Lift Coronavirus Border Checkpoints
MALAY TOWN – The government of Malay town in Aklan is considering to lift border control checkpoints to lessen the risk of spreading COVID-19.

Frolibar Bautista said, however, that lifting the virus border would mean that there will be stricter health screenings at the port of Caticlan for tourists that will enter Boracay island.
According to Panay News, the acting mayor issued Executive Order (EO) No. 4, which temporarily blocks entry to Malay and Boracay Island of any individuals, regardless of nationality, who have recent travels to China and its special administrative regions for the past 14 days.
The measure, which was enacted on Feb.7, for border control checkpoints in the following areas:
- Sitio Bacolod-Caticlan, Dumlog
- Union (Nabas)-Caticlan,
- Caticlan ports Caticlan port for travelers of motorized pump boats from Romblon and roll-on roll-off vessels from Mindoro and Batangas
The measure is a precautionary move against COVID-19 or Coronavirus Disease 2019 (formerly 2019 novel coronavirus or 2019-nCoV).
“Mahigpit ang pagbabantay natin na hindi makapasok sila sa Caticlan. Pag-aaralan din natin ang mga galing Taiwan dahil sa EO No. 4 hindi included ang Taiwan,”
As per the report, tourists in transit were intercepted in checkpoints by the town’s anti-COVID-19 task force after discovering their travel history to China, Hong Kong, and Macau.
Bautista disclosed that 45 Chinese touriusts tried to enter the border in barangay Caticlan on February 11 but were denied by the task force.
Local police and officials who are in border control checkpoints mandates treavellers to present their passports to identify travel history, and to determine whether or not they show symptoms of the virus.
“Titingnan natin ang lifting ng border checkpoints sa Feb. 15 or 16, mga 14 days mula Jan. 31 directive ni President Rodrigo Duterte. Dito na sa Caticlan port ang inspection bago makarating sa Boracay ang mga visitors ayon sa pag-uusap namin ni Governor (Florencio Miraflores),”
