Huge Crocodile Kills Fisherman From in Palawan
A huge crocodile snatched a Filipino fisherman from his boat and killed him in a remote southern island in Palawan.
The regional police spokesman Socrates Faltado reported that a 4.9 meter or 16-foot crocodile killed a fisherman on late Tuesday (October 8, 2019). The 20-year-old victim together with his colleague are sailing on their way back to the island of Balabac when the incident happened.
Faltado said that the residents still found the fisherman’s body in the crocodile’s jaw the next day. The local residents used a dynamite to kill the saltwater crocodile and to recover the victim’s body.
Nearly two months ago, a 10-year-old boy died in the same area after killed by a crocodile, according to Jovic Fabello of government council overseeing the conservation efforts in Palawan.
Earlier this year, a fisherman and a young boy were also killed by the crocodile off the island. Last year, two people around Balabac also died after the croc’s attack.
“We have to address the root cause of the incident, which is partly due to habitat destruction. The crocodiles have almost nowhere left to hide, and there is not enough food in their habitat,” Fabello said.
