Duterte, Senior Military Leaders To Have A Luxury Jet
DUTERTE – President Rodrigo Roa Duterte and senior government officials will soon be flying a luxury jet from the United States.
Davaoeño politician Rodrigo Roa Duterte was elected as president of the Republic of the Philippines in 2016. He succeeded Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III after he campaigned on a platform of change.
The 74-year-old politician made a second visit to Russia. He was accompanied by several Filipino celebrities to entertain the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) for free.
President Rodrigo Duterte met with some officials including Russian President Vladimir Putin. In a previous article, Putin promised that he will help the Pinoy president in his fight against terrorism.
Based on a report from ABS-CBN, Duterte will soon be traveling a US-built luxury jet. The director of the Department of National Defense’s Public Affairs Service, Arsenio Andolong said the ‘Gulfstream G280’ will be utilized “in the event of a crisis situation.”
The luxury jet that cost P2 billion is set for delivery next year. Andolong said other senior officers such as the country’s Defense Secretary and the Armed Forces chief may use the plane.
“Although you want to use the term lightly or loosely, it is similar to an airborne command post. It would serve that purpose,” said Andolong.
According to the report, Bagong Alyansang Makabayan Secretary-General Renato Reyes Jr. said Duterte administration “spends millions of dollars for the comfort of officials, while ordinary Filipinos endure the daily horrors of the transport crisis.”Malacañang Palace Spokesperson Salvador Panelo rejected his claims. He said it’s not comfort, it’s considered as one of the necessities in times of crisis.
“Di naman comfort ‘yun. Kung may times of crisis eh ‘di kailangan mo ‘yun. Kung necessity ba’t magwawaldas ka,” said Panelo.
Based on the report, Panelo also said the luxurious jet was not requested by the president. He said Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana is the one who negotiated with the US.
