No Special Permits Will Be Given To Vendors This Christmas Season, Isko Moreno Says
Manila Mayor Isko Moreno announced that no special permits will be issued to Divisoria vendors this Christmas Season.
On Monday (September 2, 2019), Francisco ‘Isko’ Moreno Domagoso said that the vendors in Divisoria will not be given a special permit to sell along the popular shopping streets during the Yuletide Season.
The city mayor said that they will still conduct clearing operation in Divisoria and would keep the streets clear for the motorists and pedestrians. He also explained that the existing vendors will earn more during the Ber-months even if no special permits will be released.
“‘Pag nag-umpisa na naman tayo ng lagayan diyan ng mga kung anu-ano, baka mahirap nang ibalik muli sa taongbayan. So more than anything else, ang mahalaga sa atin, ‘yung kalye maging available sa pangkalahatan,” Moreno said.
Moreno explained that the city government has good intention in keeping the streets clear since jeepney driver were forced to cut trips due to unpassable roads occupied by street vendors, which causes inconvenience to the public.
The 44-year-old politician implements the clearing of Divisoria from street vendors two days after taking his oath as the Mayor of Manila. There was also an attempt to bribe him but he did not accept it will only allow vendors to sell if they will undergo in a legal process.
