“We want to inform the Philippine emb(–foul word(s) removed–)y about our situation, I think they were not aware in the since that communication lines are not always available and we are far away from the city” he said.

There are about 30,000 Filipinos in Libya. In Tripoli about 15,000, in Benghazi and Al-Baida areas about 10,000, and about 5,000 scattered in different parts of the country.

On Wednesday night a “6-man team” lead by Executive Director Ricardo Endaya  of DFA-Office of the Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs left for Libya to help in repatriation efforts, said Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).

The program to help Filipino was implemented by the DFA and Philippine Emb(–foul word(s) removed–)y together with the Filipino Community Coordinators to reach out Filipinos and bring them to safe relocation site, said the DFA.

The DFA encourage Filipinos employed by companies with “Repatriation Plans” to join the effort.  A 24-hour Hotline Number 834-4580 is activated for the Filipino families based in Libya.

President Aquino also urged Filipinos who are in critical areas in Libya to move to place where they can hunker down safety.
